Physiotherapy will always be there!

A Fisioterapia dirá sempre presente!

In order to fully clarify and publicise the position of the Order of Physiotherapists in the face of the escalating conflict in Ukraine, and in order to better provide the necessary help, the Board of Directors set up a working team, as part of the so-called Technical Evaluation Commission, to assess, on a case-by-case basis, requests from physiotherapists coming from Ukraine under the support that Portugal grants to refugees from that country. The Order also expressed its solidarity with the President of the Ukrainian Association of Physiotherapists, Stepan Kobelyev, who promptly thanked us.

For this reason, we will disseminate the necessary information to the Ukrainian community, identifying the contacts created specifically for this purpose, using the Ukrainian Embassy, associations and other humanitarian organisations, directly, via email, posts on social networks and aid aggregator sites, among others.

In this way, we ensure not only that the request for support is related to the Ukrainian issue, but also that there is a link with the registered physiotherapists and colleagues who receive the requests actually intended to support Ukrainian citizens and their families.

Finally, many thanks to all the translator physiotherapists who agreed to take part in this effort to support the Ukrainian community!

Physiotherapy will always be there when it comes to defending the rights of all citizens!

Professor José João Mendes, Chairman of the Board of Egas Moniz, emphasised the importance of research across the board and the long road that the institution has travelled in this area and continues to travel. Professor Luciano Maia, the founder of this laboratory, emphasised all the partnerships that have enabled it to become a reality.

LAFFFI is a research laboratory whose mission is to develop basic, advanced and applied research in disciplines linked to the study and teaching of physiotherapy and biomedical sciences, as well as other scientific areas applied to health.

The Order of Physiotherapists wishes LAFFFI every success for the future.

Meeting with ATARP

Reunião com a ATARP

The Order of Physiotherapists meets with the Portuguese Association of Radiology, Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine Technicians (ATARP).

The president of the Order of Physiotherapists, António Lopes, together with vice-president Nuno Cordeiro and board member Afonso Neutel met with the president of ATARP, Altino Cunha, and its vice-president, Rute Santos. The topics discussed were the future of the professions they represent.

For the OF, the "professional interconnection between physiotherapy and the professions represented by ATARP was the starting point for analysing potential partnerships and collaborations between the two entities". The "role of the physiotherapist and their relationship with the different areas in the field of imaging and ultrasound" were other topics discussed at the meeting.

They also discussed "possibilities for collaboration" that would allow the Order of Physiotherapists and ATARP to work closely together to protect citizens who use health services.

Meeting with the Ordre des masseurs-kinésithérapeutes

Reunião com a Ordre des masseurs-kinésithérapeutes

The Order of Physiotherapists met with the Ordre des masseurs-kinésithérapeutes (French Order of Physiotherapists) which, as part of the rotating Presidency of the European Community, wanted to hear from counterparts in other Member States about the creation of a Common Training Framework for physiotherapists.

With this framework, there will be an essential minimum harmonisation, which will make it much easier to recognise qualifications when a professional wants to practice in another member state, avoiding, for example, having to carry out compensation measures in order to be authorised to practice in that country.

Currently, the mobility process for physiotherapists, even under the European Professional Card, is decided on a case-by-case basis depending on the training that the candidate for mobility has, since training differs from country to country, and even within the same country.

The Order of Physiotherapists, as the competent authority for recognising European diplomas for professional practice in Portugal, has expressed its willingness to collaborate in this initiative.

Meeting with the Consejo General de Colegios de Fisioterapeutas de España

Reunião com o Consejo General de Colegios de Fisioterapeutas de España

On 27 January, the Board of the Order of Physiotherapists met with the President of the Consejo General de Colegios de Fisioterapeutas de España, Gustavo Paseiro Ares.

This meeting promoted the sharing of mutual concerns between Portugal and Spain regarding free movement and the autonomy and regulation of the profession, among other issues.

The OF believes that this discussion will increase the value of the profession and will allow physiotherapists to grow in the near future.

Meeting with the Physiotherapists' Union

Reunião com o Sindicato dos Fisioterapeutas

The OF Board met today with the Board of the Physiotherapists' Union, in the person of physiotherapist João Paulo Valente.

This much-anticipated meeting promoted the sharing of concerns and the search for answers needed by the profession. We therefore believe that this meeting has strengthened fundamental ties between our organisations, which, although different in nature, seek to dignify the profession and value physiotherapists.
